I’m a nutrition expert – this 1-minute morning hack can transform your gut health

She has help number one to go to number two.

Certified nutritionist and personal trainer Gianna has taken to TikTok to share the trio of morning rituals she swears by to support gut health—and one, in particular, should get things moving.

It should be done immediately after lifting and can be done in less than a minute – with no special ingredients.

“Number one is drinking warm water on an empty stomach.”

Gianna drinks approximately 32 ounces of warm water and claims the benefits are countless.

“Not only will it hydrate you and make you feel good, but it will also help restore your natural fluid balance and help your digestion just by getting things moving again and releasing toxins,” says Gianna.

She adds that adding electrolyte powder, Himalayan salt, lemon juice or apple cider vinegar to that warm water can amplify the effects.

Her advice echoes that of French biochemist and bestselling author Jessie Inchauspé, also known as the Glucose Goddess, who recently extolled the virtues of drinking vinegar water for weight management and energy boosts.

Gianna’s Breakfast Recipe is also remarkably less hateful than other recent water hackswhich include chia seed-based water, Gen-Z favorite water, and “nature’s lube,” otherwise known as okra water, aka a snot shot.

What are other ways to balance your hormones and improve gut health first? According to Gianna, we should never do a typical morning9 ritual without eating first.

“We are no longer drinking coffee on an empty stomach. That’s one of the worst things you can do if you’re trying to balance your hormones,” she says. “Not only are you overloading your kidneys, but you’re also sending a surge of cortisol throughout your body.”

Cortisol is the body’s main stress hormone – it is produced by the adrenal glands and released into the bloodstream during times of stress.

It affects sleep, mood and energy levels and also fights inflammation, controls blood pressure and regulates blood sugar, among other important functions.

Gianna encourages viewers to eat a balanced breakfast before or with their first cup of coffee.

In another TikTok, nutritional therapist Oliva Hedlund also weighed in on coffee, saying “not only is it acidic, so it’s hard on our stomachs in the morning, but it literally causes our bodies to go into a stress response, to release cortisol and put us in a fight or flight state.

“That’s because your body is stressed. Drink something small before you drink a coffee. Make it your goal. I promise you’ll notice a difference.”

Number three in Gianna’s Holy Trinity wake-up routine: Rise and shine with an AM workout.

“Doing some kind of movement in the morning will immediately help digestion. “Your body needs some movement after you’ve slept all night to get your blood flowing,” she explains. “That way, you can jumpstart your digestion and have a good bowel movement in the morning.”

Other ways to help and encourage number two? A high-fiber diet and some poop yoga, the latter a toilet trick that a surgeon claims can improve your stops.
